A restaurant owner campaigning for the right to serve shisha pipes on his premises has appeared in court accused of ignoring the smoking ban.
Shazeer Merali, of Insha Ltd, Bradford, could face total fines of more than £5,000 if Bingley magistrates find him guilty of two charges of allowing people to smoke in his premises.
The owner of Markaz Restaurant and Shisha Lounge, in Centenary Square, Bradford, admitted he allows his customers to smoke shisha pipes, because he would go out of business if he did not.

The reason why you can smoke inside of Kan Zaman is the Hookah mixture has no tobacco inside of it. But researchers at UC Berkeley say it's not so much the hookah that you're smoking that can cause health problems, but the charcoal that keeps it warm.
"That probably means you're going to have the high carbon monoxide," said U.C. Berkeley professor Katharine Hammond, Ph.D.

Her research on the health effects of cigarette smoke on flight attendants eventually led to the smoking ban in airplanes.
Hammond's latest research on hookah smoking was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Anyway, for whatever reason she pitched up at the do for the US National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (which has the catchy acronym NHBLI) where the New York Daily News asked her how she protected her heart . . .
Genius Joss then revealed her vast knowledge of the respiratory and pulmonary system, and also the emptiness inside both her head and soul.
"In England we smoked rolled cigarettes. It's better to smoke rollies than straights because straights have chemicals that keep them burning. So if you have to really smoke, smoke rollies."
Superb advice to all those thinking of taking up smoking or smokers who just fancy a little change. Except it's completely wrong, apparently, and a 2006 study established that hand-rolled cigarettes are actually more likely to cause lung and oesophageal cancer.
But whatever the medical evidence, talking about the benefits of a particular kind of smoking at a health benefit is just a bit wrong isn't it?

According to related authorities from the Ministry of Health, the Tobacco Order which was supposed to be enforced by February 1, 2008 has been delayed to further notifications due to some amendments currently made by the ministry.
The decision of the new order which has the major support from members of the public is still being discussed by the related authorities from the ministry and will be informed to the public as soon as possible as to why the enforcement is being delayed.
So far, when interviewed by The Brunei Times, some restaurant and cafe owners in the sultanate said that they have not received any letter or notice saying that the enforcement of the order was due to start.
